Our ballet classes are suitable for all levels – from the complete beginner to the experienced dancer looking for more of a challenge.
Ballet is the foundation from which nearly all dance styles have developed. It requires strong technique, athleticism and grace and Hitchin School of Dance has a tradition of excellence in ballet instruction. Our teachers are experts in their field and we take pride in continuing the tradition of using a pianists for our ballet classes.
All our Ballet, classes follow the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD) Syllabi.
Established in 1904, the ISTD is the largest and one of the most influential dance organisations and leading examination boards in the world.
Pre-School Ballet Classes:
The pre-school ballet class aims to assist in the development of a child’s co-ordination, confidence, imagination and ability to express feelings and emotion, but all also to have fun.
We offer the graded syllabus in ballet, beginning at Primary level, and continuing through Grades 1-6 which are now accredited by the QCA. (Class Timetable)
All levels of the Vocational grades are accredited by the QCA for all three syllabi, and form a cohesive continuation from the Grades.
ISTD examinations are held annually, although not compulsory. These examinations, conducted by the country’s most respected authority in the field, are important in cultivating a sense of achievement amongst the children and students, offering a great reward as they progress through the grades. The examination success rate has, and still is exceptionally high at Hitchin School of Dance. Some 95% of our pupils have gained distinctions and merit grades from ISTD
